Chelsea deny claims they met Ruben Amorim over potential managerial role

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim was in London recently and has been linked to Chelsea in recent months.

The Blues have been adamant that they did not pay for a flight for Amorim to visit London last week and did not hold any meetings or talks with him, as per Matt Law.

Amorim was in London to meet with West Ham as the two parties held talks over the manager potentially taking over from David Moyes next season.

He had been linked to Liverpool for a while before meeting with West Ham, something he was later forced to apologize for.

Amorim said after the trip that the meeting was "obviously it was a mistake," and apologized to the Sporting players and fans.

"The trip, the timing was completely wrong. I didn’t think so at the time but it was wrong, especially when I’m so demanding of my players, and I’m always the first to say that the problems of individuals can’t take over the team, and I’ve taken players out of the team for much less. It was my fault, I have to accept that and live with it.

"I’m using the conference here to say sorry to the Sporting fans, the staff and above all to say sorry publicly to the players for the mistake that I made.”
