'We move on': Pochettino reveals clear message he sent Chelsea players over penalty embarrassment

"I made it clear after the game. We had a meeting with all the players, staff and the sporting directors," Mauricio Pochettino told a press conference when asked about how he dealt with the row over a penalty in the Everton game.

"I explained my feelings and delivered a clear message that I delivered in my media and press conference. We move on and I think they understood the situation.

"In some [ways] it's an image you don't like, in another [way] it's good if the player wants to take the responsibility and take the penalties, show their personality and the character of the team. But they need to respect the rules.

"Discipline is so important. The way they approached what they did was in a very wrong way. Now it's important for us to learn and apply the common sense and behave in a different way in the future."

Cole Palmer is now the definite penalty-taker for Chelsea as he is yet to miss a shot from the spot.

However, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson might need to be ready to take one in the Man City game — it's a cup game, after all, and it may end in a shootout.
