Explained: Why Lewis Hall's £35m Newcastle move won't ease Chelsea's FFP woes

Chelsea left-back Lewis Hall joined Newcastle last summer on a £7m loan with an obligation to buy for a £28m fee in 2024.

The Blues will reportedly have to raise over £100m before July to avoid breaching the Financial Fair Play rules. But the Englishman's 35m fee is spread out across several years so it won't be much help to Chelsea in terms of FFP.

Journalist Ben Jacobs explained: “The other thing I’m told which is quite interesting in this is that Newcastle may have structured the deal to actually receive the player now but pay after the PSR cut-off, which would be far, far, far more beneficial for Newcastle than it would be for Chelsea.”
