Joe Shields, Chelsea's co-director of recruitment and talent, really played a big role in the Blues signing Cole Palmer last summer.
Shields reportedly was convinced of Palmer's potential after watching him closely at Manchester City's academy where Joe worked from 2018 to 2022. It was Shields who asked Chelsea to sign the 21-year-old after it was clear that Palmer wouldn't be a regular starter under Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea's director is hailed for his exceptional ability to discover young gems. He also identified the likes of Romeo Lavia and Jadon Sancho and there is much hope that the former will play a key role for the Blues after leaving the injury issues behind.
In 2023, Joe Shields joined Chelsea from Southampton where he worked as a chief scout.
