Former Chelsea midfielder Claudio Makelele has revealed that he played a part in influencing Trevoh Chalobah to change his playing position.
Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “One example is Trevoh Chalobah, who was playing as a midfielder. I made him understand he was not a midfielder — you need to play behind [in defence], because that allows you to see the game. So we talked a lot.
“He tried one time and he said he was comfortable like this and he started making his way.”
Chalobah has been quite a versatile player for Chelsea, having operated as a centre-back as well as a right-back for the senior team. He’s started to impress Mauricio Pochettino recently, starting the last two consecutive games too.
The Englishman was linked to a possible move to Bayern Munich last summer before it broke down, and he could reportedly be put up for sale again in the summer unless able to produce some immaculate performances until the end of the season.
