Despite not being the usual target for Chelsea under the new owners, Brentford striker Ivan Toney has remained linked with the Blues for months. Chelsea's need for a striker may have outweighed other concerns.
However, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank insists now that Toney will not leave in January.
"Yes, he’s staying," Frank said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
"He is a Brentford player. I can’t see why we would sell him and I would love to have him for a longer time”.
"It needs to be an unbelievable price. So he will stay here."
Chelsea were always going to need to spend a lot on a new striker that would've been an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja.
Now that Toney is unavailable and Victor Osimhen has just signed a new contract with Napoli, Chelsea might be better off waiting till the summer.
