John Terry prediction on Alfie Gilchrist resurfaces after first-team debut — it was spot-on

On Wednesday night, Alfie Gilchrist made his senior Chelsea debut. The 20-year-old centre-back emerged in the stoppage time to help Chelsea hold on to a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.

Gilchrist's debut might've come as a surprise to some casual viewers, but not to those who saw his name among substitutes in several games before.

The person who was least surprised about this, however, was probably John Terry. Earlier this year, the Chelsea legend claimed Gilchrist could become the next great player to come from the academy where he is now working in a mentor capacity.

"He's a really, really good player. He's got an unbelievable attitude, he's been at the club since the age of eight," Terry said.

"He performs so well on a daily basis, does everything right and I think he's got a real chance.

"We spoke about the young players going on loan and I think Alfie's next step is to go on loan next season and then you see how he does. I'm expecting big things from Alf, I'm expecting him to play hopefully a game or two this season as the season goes on."

Gilchrist already made one part of Terry's prediction true. Hopefully, more is yet to come.
