3 Chelsea players who are wasting their time on loan

Chelsea have signed a number of players since Todd Boehly and his consortium took control of the club in 2022.

The squad initially became very bloated as the Blues endured one of their worst seasons in Premier League history.

After offloading many players, the Blues had a number of youngsters that had to be managed and they became a part of the new era of the Chelsea loan army.

While players like Ziyech and Hall are also technically on loan, they both have an obligation to buy clause in the deals with their new clubs, which effectively means they're gone for good.

Other players, namely Slonina and Andrey have had some regular game time at their loan clubs in Belgium and France.

Lukaku is in an odd situation with Chelsea, who are paying his complete wages at Roma but it is unlikely that the player will stay at the club even when his loan ends next summer.

Kepa is another that has made his intentions to make his move away from Chelsea permanent, which Blues' fans will probably be okay with.

The remaining three loanees are Diego Moreira, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana. The trio would have hoped to gain some vital experience on their loans but it doesn't seem to be panning out that way.

Diego Moreira joined Lyon on loan in the summer but has been involved in only 3 games off the bench for the French side, racking up just 75 total minutes this season.

Andrey Santos is another who has barely had any minutes to play competitive football. He has played just 7 minutes for Nottingham Forest this season.

Datro Fofana is an interesting one. He's been a fairly regular starter for Bundesliga side Union Berlin and has played 16 games for them.

The issue is that Union Berlin has been one of the most out-of-form teams in the continent and have lost 9 out of their last 10 league games. He's got just one goal for them in the Champions League and is yet to score in the league.

These three youngsters would be hoping for some serious upswing in their fortunes going into the second half of the season because so far, it's not looking so good.
