Chelsea are expected to recall Andrey Santos from his loan at Nottingham Forest, according to the Evening Standard.
The Brazilian midfielder has played just seven Premier League minutes after his move to the City Ground. It's a source of disappointment for Chelsea who hoped the 19-year-old would get a taste of the top-level football after impressing in pre-season.
Chelsea can end the loan arrangement if Santos does not play a certain number of games.
After he returns to Stamford Bridge, though, Chelsea will face a number of issues before determining his future.
If he's to be loaned out again, Chelsea have to explore other options within English football or break any existing loan arrangement with a foreign club. They have already reached the limit of seven overseas loans, with players like Hakim Ziyech, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Romelu Lukaku are still formally on the club's books.
Should they decide to keep Andrey at the club, the midfielder would face stiff competition for places, with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher, Lesley Ugochukwu and, hopefully, Romeo Lavia vying for three midfield slots.
