How Chelsea could line up next season with Nkunku & Jackson in Poch's trademark 4-2-3-1 shape: two options

Chelsea have so far made only one big signing this summer and it's Christopher Nkunku. Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson is expected to join the club soon, with the deal reportedly in the final stages.

How do Chelsea line up with them?

Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the 4-2-3-1 formation and Nkunku's versatility seems perfect for the Argentine as who could utilise the new signing in a variety of ways.

Here is our take, without the departed players or players heavily linked with summer exits.

Option 1: Nkunku as playmaker

Pochettino's 4-2-3-1 approach involves an attacking playmaker who orchestrates the play in the final third, takes on opposition defenders and provides the final pass to forwards. Nkunku can do all that.

With Mudryk and Sterling cutting inside from the wings and Jackson or Broja in a classic centre-forward position, Chelsea's attack will be full of creativity next season.

Option 2: Nkunku as false 9

The words 'false nine' will cause a lot of pain among Chelsea fans after Thomas Tuchel's and Graham Potter's misguided attempts to use the likes of Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Timo Werner in that position.

However, Nkunku might be the best fit for this role due to his ability to both score and create goals, his pace and tactical intelligence. But both Jackson and Broja still need to prove themselves in the Premier League so Pochettino may decide to play it safe and use the Frenchman up front.

The question is, who plays as a no. 10 then? There could be a solution in unleashing Enzo Fernandez's creativity by playing him there — but Chelsea would really need to sign Caicedo to take his place in the double pivot.

So here's what it would look like.
