Pulisic 8, Jorginho 2: Rating Chelsea players in West Ham victory

Man Of The Match

Christian Pulisic: 8/10. He came on, he scored, he won. Didn't do much apart from putting the ball past Fabianski but he didn't have to — he was brought on to win the game for Chelsea and he did the job.

Good

Marcos Alonso: 7. A rather unimpressive display overall but deserves all the flowers for putting in that perfect cross for Pulisic's winner.

Romelu Lukaku: 7. Earned a penalty for the Blues, using his physicality to force Dawson to pull him. It's not his fault Jorginho didn't score the penalty. Rom finally gets something to build upon.

N'Golo Kante: 7. Appeared to be the only player with some kind of drive in the opening hour, moving the ball forward and trying to assume the playmaking role. Nearly scored with a deflected shot in the second half.

Thiago Silva: 6.5. Confident at the back, even tried to help offensively, making a good run in the middle of the second half.

Edou Mendy: 6.5. Made a fantastic double save on Yarmolenko, also the Ukrainian had been offside in the build-up.

Decent

Trevoh Chalobah: 6. Started the game as Christensen felt sick before kick-off. Conceded a mistake early on, leading to a dangerous West Ham counter-attack. Picked himself up after that and even attempted a long-range effort that Toni Rudiger would have been proud of.

Hakim Ziyech: 6. Was expected to revitalise Chelsea when brought on but did not get enough time to do it.

Poor

Mason Mount: 5.5. Mase looked bereft of confidence today. He barely had any impact on the game although he has to take the credit for setting up Alonso, who then assisted Pulisic's winning goal.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek: 5.5. He's not a wing-back and it shows. West Ham defenders did not give him space that he gets in midfield and it limited Ruben's influence on the game. Despite that, tried his best to move the ball forward and was helpful defensively.

Kai Havertz: 3.5. Lost the ball almost whenever he touched it.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 3.5. Was asked to play in an unfamiliar left centre-back position. Made a huge mistake early in the game, gifting the ball to Benrahma. Somewhat shaky at the box, allowing Yarmolenko too much space and time on the ball.

Timo Werner: 3. Typically poor finishing from Timo today. Wasted two great chances in the second half.

Jorginho: 2. That must have been one of the worst penalties we've ever seen, he just shot straight at Fabianski. A poor display even if we forget about the penalty miss. Decent defensively but clueless offensively, most of his passing went sideways and backwards.
