5 players trending among Chelsea fans this week

Having a look at the Chelsea-related players who have been discussed the most in the fan community lately.

Antonio Rudiger

The centre-back is yet to decide on his future, and the speculation does not stop for a day.

Sources in Spain have claimed that Real Madrid are no longer pursuing the German due to his high salary demands.

Rudiger is yet to find a compromise with Chelsea for the same reason but has held positive talks with the club lately, so there's hope for some turnaround - especially with Thomas Tuchel showing his appreciation of the player on a weekly basis,

Romelu Lukaku

The storm that engulfed Romelu Lukaku has subsided after his apology was shared through Chelsea's social media channels.

Still, there'll be no lack of scrutiny when his performances are concerned. Lukaku will have to back his words with actions - or even better, with goals.

Saul

Until recently, Saul Niguez was on course towards joining the list of the worst loan players in the club's history.

He showed signs of improvement even before this week, but it's his performance against Tottenham that has shifted the narrative.

Chelsea are still unlikely to trigger a buyout option in the summer - but we can at least expect Saul to show up more regularly in the second part of the season.

Thiago Silva

The veteran has become the first Chelsea centre-back with an expiring contract to sign a new one, committing himself to the club for another year.

Unfortunately, just a couple of days after the announcement, Thiago tested positive for Covid. His wife has confirmed that he shows no symptoms, but he'll be sorely missed on the pitch in the coming days.

Lucas Digne

We've already explored why Digne is a name mentioned a lot in the Chelsea community recently.

In short, the Blues are known to be considering the Everton left-back as a January signing - but they are yet to make an approach.

A six-month loan would make a lot of sense for all parties involved, but Everton expect another Premier League team to turn up with a bid for a permanent move - and Chelsea might have to act fast if they want to be in the front seat.
