Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Here, Tribuna.com takes at all reported options Chelsea have to cover for the England international.
Lucas Digne
According to Gianluca Di Marzio and the Telegraph, Chelsea are interested in signing Everton left-back Lucas Digne to fill in for Chilly.
The Blues are keen on landing the 28-year-old on loan until the end of the current season.
The Frenchman joined Everton in 2018. He has been a first-team player for the Toffees, making 113 appearances, scoring four goals and providing 18 assists.
Sergino Dest
The Barcelona man is a right-back but he can also play on the left-hand side. The Telegraph report that he is one of the options discussed by the Blues hierarchy.
Dest's arrival would not only solve the problem of Chilwell's injury absence: he could provide cover and competition to Reece James.
Barcelona are said to be willing to sell the American.
Emerson or Maatsen recalled
Chelsea have two left-backs out on loan. Emerson Palmieri currently plays for Lyon and Ian Maatsen features for Coventry.
As per the Telegraph, Chelsea could recall either Emerson or Maatsen.
The Italy international is a first-team player at Lyon, where he has recorded a goal and an assist in 15 Ligue 1 appearances so far.
Maatsen, who joined Chelsea in 2018, has a goal and an assist in 20 Championship games so far this season.
In-squad options
Marcos Alonso is an excellent player. His performances early in the season should that he could compete with Chilwell. So the Blues could decide to put their faith in the Spaniard and decide against bringing in a new left-back.
Saul Niguez, Calum Hudson-Odoi and even Reece James have all played at left wing-back. They could all be occasionally used there when Marcos Alonso needs rest.
