Haaland not needed: fan suggests smart move to end Chelsea's striker 'curse'

Chelsea's striker position is seemingly cursed. World-class attackers such as Fernando Torres, Andriy Shevchenko, Alvaro Morata have struggled at Stamford Bridge, and Timo Werner has arguably shown his best football as a winger, not centre-forward.

This summer, Chelsea are looking for a new no. 9. Players such as Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Danny Ings are linked with a move to Stamford Bridge—but no one guarantees these players would lift the curse.

So a Chelsea fan nicknamed aannoonn5678 has come up with an inventive solution to break the spell—continue using Kai Havertz in a false 9 role.

"How do you beat the Curse of the Chelsea #9? Play with a false 9..." aannoonn5678 wrote on Reddit.

"The football gods will be confused and won't know who to curse. Bingo bango bongo, treble incoming."

Havertz was on fire when Tuchel decided to use him as a false 9 last season, bagging a brace against Fulham, and recording a goal and an assist against Palace.
