'A certified finisher', 'might as well keep Abraham': Chelsea fans assess Danny Ings as potential signing after contract update

Danny Ings has rejected Southampton's contract extension offer, The Athletic has revealed.

The 28-year-old has a year left on his deal, and Saints either have to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2022.

The striker has been quite unlucky with injuries, but his goalscoring record for Southampton (41 goals in 91 games) proves he is a reliable goalscorer, something that Chelsea are looking for this summer.

No wonder plenty of the Blues' supporters have already voiced their views.

Reddit

rohangc07: "He’s 28, so not very old, and we play 4-5 different competitions so he’s definitely going to start but I doubt our Tuchel would want him."

SeriousLads: "If he’s happy being a rotation option, and we can land him for anything under 25m, then absolutely."

ThePraetorianGuard92: "Think it would be a great signing for the right price, with Tammy and Giroud presumably gone. Havertz and Werner as the only two options leaves us a bit light. We can still go for Haaland next summer if Dortmund don’t want to sell now."

Twitter

@CFCPerikin: "No way some Chelsea fans are already fuming we’re linked to Danny Ings. Man is a certified finisher. We need Haaland but Ings isn’t that bad."

@10_raffay: "I won't mind him for €20m. We can use him as a rotational player though going from Haaland to Ings will be a massive downgrade as well."

@Kani_cfc: "I actually would like Ings at Chelsea. But obviously just as a backup."

The Shed End

dkw: "We should be all over that, even if it's just to see some of our more erm... emotional fans reaction when we sign an Englishman and not the latest shiny Spanish/Italian/German striker they love."

Sindre: "Not what we need. If we are after a poacher we might as well keep Abraham."

dansubrosa: "He’s honestly pretty thick. He has a horror injury record and just been offered a generous 4-year contract. And he turned it down… No one will want him. Can’t justify spending big money on a player with a bad injury record."
