Sporting director confirms Atalanta's intention to trigger Mario Pasalic's buy-out clause

Mario Pasalic will join Atalanta on a permanent deal this summer as the Serie A outfit have decided to trigger his €15m buy-out clause at the end of the season, the club's sporting director Giovanni Sartori has confirmed.

“We’re going to buy Mario Pasalic on a permanent deal from Chelsea,” he told Sky Italia. "We want to use the buy option.”

The Croat joined Chelsea in a €2.5m move from Hajduk Split in 2014. He's never made an official appearance for the Blues so far.

The central midfielder had loan spells at Elche, AS Monaco, AC Milan and Spartak Moscow before joining Atalanta in 2018.

He signed a new three-year deal with Chelsea before extending his loan spell in Bergamo by another 12 months last summer.

A €15m is arguably a good deal for the Blues who are looking to offload a host of players in the following months to fund transfers of Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz.
