'It's crazy': Mikel Arteta blames fixture schedule for slip-up in Premier League race

"I don’t know but when you look at the schedule of the games that we have to play every three days, it’s crazy," lamented Mikel Arteta at his post-match press conference.

"So this can happen to any team, it has happened in the past and we cannot control that at all.

"We can control how we are going to be now, prepare from tomorrow to give ourselves the best chance to go to Bayern Munich with big belief and win the game to go into the [Champions League] semi-finals."

The Arsenal boss does expect more twists and turns in the race for the Premier League title, even though Manchester City now have an advantage.

"[More twists and turns] That’s a possibility, that’s the reality right now." Arteta continued.

"It was the same a few months back, we knew that this moment could come. Now it’s about reacting and keep believing and doing what we can."

The unexpected 2-0 loss to Aston Villa now leaves Arsenal level on points with third-placed Liverpool and two behind leaders Manchester City.

All three sides only have six more league games left before 2023/24 ends.
