Arsenal's pursuit of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi won't materialize in the January transfer window. That is according to Football Espana. The Gunners have been eyeing the Spanish midfielder for over a year, expressing interest in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
However, despite persistent links to Barcelona and Arsenal, Real Sociedad remains firm on keeping their key player. Coach Imanol Alguacil is confident that Zubimendi wants to stay and represent his hometown club in the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta had plans to trigger Zubimendi’s €60m release clause at the start of 2024, but the situation now seems unfeasible. Although Arteta still desires Zubimendi in North London, he understands that making an offer mid-season would be immediately turned down by Real Sociedad.
The Basque club has secured a spot in the Champions League last 16, and Zubimendi is pivotal to Alguacil’s plans for this season. Zubimendi scored 3 goals and made 1 assist across 26 appearances for his club.
