Arsenal 3-0 Luton Town: 3 big lessons as Gunners thrash Premier League rivals in friendly

Arsenal defeated Luton Town 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday. Leandro Trossard netted twice with Bukayo Saka also on target.

The Hatters are without a game this weekend following their home match with Burnley being postponed to give Kenilworth Road time to prepare to host a first-ever Premier League match.

The Gunners, meanwhile, face Crystal Palace on Monday. Here are our thoughts on the game.

Leandro Trossard is ready

Trossard has proven to be an important member of Mikel Arteta's squad since joining in January. The Belgian racked up an impressive 10 assists and the expectation was that he would be given more opportunities this term.

However, Trossard started this season on the bench against Nottingham Forest despite a solid pre-season that culminated in a goal in the Community Shield. Two goals against Luton again shows that the 28-year-old is ready to lead the line in Gabriel Jesus' absence.

Zinchenko and Nelson return

Although Reiss Nelson was on the bench for the opening Premier League game of the season against Nottingham Forest, he was an unused substitute with a continuing assessment of his status. However, he started the match against Luton showcasing his readiness to be called upon when needed.

Oleksandr Zinchenko though was the big plus. Having missed pre-season and the start of the campaign with yet another calf injury, he featured in the match against Luton meaning he could be in line to play on Monday night.

Clean start for David Raya

David Raya featured for an hour in the game, allowing for some valuable game time, especially as he is unlikely to make his official debut in an Arsenal shirt any time soon. His first opportunity could be the first group-stage match of the Champions League.

This would be Tuesday 19th or Wednesday 20th of September. The League Cup third round takes place the following week too meaning that the Spaniard is sure to get some weekly back-to-back cup competition action. Before then, Raya already made a good account of himself with a clean sheet.
