Arsenal backed to sign players in January & 2 more under-radar stories

Brighton referee confirmed

Jarred Gillett will be taking charge of the Arsenal vs Brighton clash in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, it has been officially announced.

The Australian-born referee has officiated just two games involving the Gunners so far with a record one win and one draw.

Arsenal backed to sign players in January

Tier-one journalist Fabrizio Romano has backed Arsenal to sign at least a couple of players in the winter window.

In his Caught Offside column, the transfer guru wrote: "I’m told they [Arsenal] are not finished – they want to keep building, and to keep fighting for the Premier League. They wanted a midfielder in the summer, though a deal for Douglas Luiz was not possible."

Arteta urged to strengthen 2 areas

Addressing the need for Arsenal to add squad depth, Ray Parlour said on talkSPORT: "January will be important for a lot of clubs. There might be a bit of money there for Mikel Arteta to say, ‘Right, we need another midfielder’.

"We need a Youri Tielemans, like when they tried to get him before. They need a backup striker in case Gabriel Jesus gets injured. I know they’ve got Eddie Nketiah but sometimes you need the extra striker who’s going to get you the goals to win the league."
