'Everybody is going to have the same opportunities': Mikel Arteta opens door to Guendouzi's return

Ahead of the Liverpool clash in the Community Shield, Mikel Arteta was asked whether there is a chance we could see Matteo Guendouzi reinstated to the squad.

"I have been really clear that everybody starts from zero all the time in football. What you did two weeks ago or two years ago doesn't really matter," the boss said as reported by Arsenal's website.

"It's what you are able to contribute to the team now. Everybody is going to have the same opportunities.

"They'll have to show with their performances and their attitude that they are better than their teammates or somehow contributing to what we want to achieve this season."

The gaffer was then asked if he had spoken to Matteo during the off-season.

"Yes," he replied briefly.

The first reports concerning the rift in relations between the boss and the midfielder emerged in February.

Then in June, the 21-year-old was totally removed from the squad after the Brighton incident when he grabbed Neil Maupay by the throat.

Since then, the Frenchman has been constantly linked with an Arsenal exit.

Even though has changed his tune towards the petulant kid it remains to be seen if he's really get reinstated in the squad. At least, in the latest friendly against MK Dons the central midfielder was omitted.
